As I have mentioned many times we live in a world in which we are exposed to thousands of toxins every day.   It is in our water (eg chlorine and fluoride), in our food (pesticides, chemicals), in skincare products,  smoking products, alcohol, drugs and pharmaceuticals, in our homes and in so many other sources to which we come in contact every day.

People who are the healthiest and live the longest are those who both minimize their toxic exposure and (this is the key) who either are naturally good detoxifiers (they have genes that endow the person with a strong ability to detoxify) or who actively detoxify.

We detoxify through the kidneys, the liver and through our skin.   Drinking lots of water, colonics, lymph drainage supplements, saunas and detoxifying  baths are important to continue to remove toxin buildup and keep our detoxification pathways open.

Nevertheless,  many do not have regular access to these detoxification tools and as such should use foods and herbs to regularly remove toxins.   The following amazing detoxification foods should be consumed regularly for continued removal of toxins to which we are regularly exposed.

  •  Eggs

    (organic from free range hens) contain sulfur which is critical for liver detoxification.

  • Cruciferous vegetables

    (kale, cabbage, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower) are all natural detoxifiers  assisting in both phases of liver detoxification.   Supporting both phases of liver detoxification broadens the scope of toxins that are removed.

  • Garlic

    contains the active ingredient allicin which is both a powerful detoxifier and an antioxidant which helps repair damage from toxins.

  • Chlorella

    is a green algae that actively binds to toxins (especially heavy metals like mercury, lead and cadmium as well as binding to chemicals) to remove them from the body.   This is termed chelation.

  •  Dandelion

    improves liver and gall bladder function and relieves constipation.   Dandelion also increases urine production for detoxification and is a potent

  • Fermented vegetables

    (eg Sauerkraut) are powerful detoxifiers by means of dramatically increasing probiotics in the Gastrointestinal System.   These probiotics bind to and eliminate toxins especially heavy metals.   Probiotics also help to eliminate unhealthy, pathologic bacteria.

  • Nuts and seeds

    (chia, flax, almonds, pine nuts, brazil nuts) contain Omega 3’s, vitamin E to help detoxification and also serve as antioxidants.

  • Wild Salmon

    contains high levels of Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) for liver health and to assist in decreasing inflammation.   Wild caught salmon is highly preferred over farm raised due to higher EFA’s and nutrients.

  • Tumeric

    is a spice that dramatically decreases inflammation and increases liver detoxification.

  • Lemon

    contains citric acid to stimulate stomach acid for improved digestion and toxin elimination. The vitamin C in lemon is an antioxidant which activates  ascorbate peroxidase, an antioxidant
